THEORETICAL APPROACHES

I am a Holistic & Integrative Therapist who may utilize several approaches.  I engage with your whole self & world and together we can can devise a plan of action that will meet your goal(s).  This therapeutic approach selects techniques from different therapeutic orientations best suited to you, the client(s), particular challenge and combining these elements into a more cohesive experience. By tailoring the therapy to you, my hope & goal is to produce the most significant effects by improving the quality of treatment.

  • My primary orientation is Client-Centered which means I am genuine and show up in session providing a compassionate listening ear and acceptance of you for who you fully are, while supporting you step into living your authentic and meaningful life.  I am not here to pass judgment on your feelings or offer suggestions or solutions.  My approach is collaborative and flexible, and I encourage you to share your thoughts & ideas as we decide how we work together.  The goal is to help you build rapport with me, your therapist, and ensure that you feel fully understood.  I strive to provide you with the environment to feel safe to be vulnerable to reflect on your own inner thoughts, perceptions, and emotions, which may offer unique insights you didn’t have access to previously.

  • I may also utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which focuses on problem-solving directed at present day issues via learning how to identify and change the destructive or disturbing thought patterns that have a negative influence on your behavior and emotions.  The goal is to identify, challenge, and replace faulty thoughts with more objective, realistic thoughts in order to change your response to challenging situations.

  • Ecotherapy/EcoWellness sessions are often held outside in nature. I harness the innate relaxing effect that nature has on clients to help them in their mental health journeys. This could include walking in nature, mediating in nature, or even gardening together.  As the saying goes, "Sometimes we need to touch grass and take in some sunshine/natural Vitamin D."

  • I also can pull from Attachment Theory, which explores how the emotional bond between an infant and primary caregiver affect’s the child’s behavioral and emotional development in adulthood.  There is a saying along the lines of “How you were parented, is how you are partnered.”

  • Psychodynamic Therapy is an approach that involves facilitation a deeper understanding of one’s emotions and other mental processes. I encourage you to stay present with what is of concern to you in the moment, and explore it.  Sometimes this means going back in to the past to get to the core.  By engaging in this process, you can discover new ways of thinking, feeling, and acting that are more fulfilling.  In better understanding your emotional patterns and their roots, you are better equipped to manage your problems and develop coping techniques that will help you both now and into the future.

I may implement other treatment modalities depending on the current circumstances and your needs.  I strive to encourage you to (re)discover and be your authentic self in order to get to the core of what is driving your unhealthy coping mechanisms/tools and learn new coping skills and gain the tools to bring about healthy changes in your behavior and thought patterns.
