For children and adolescents/teenagers, each year, month, and sometimes even day-to-day, they are learning, developing, thinking, and feeling in novel ways previously unknown to them. They might encounter temporary situational challenges or undergo significant life changes that could potentially lead to lasting difficulties. Interestingly, even positive experiences can, at times, be a source of stress.

Eboniña Evans, LMFT | EOnWellness

My professional background includes extensive experience as a psychotherapist across diverse settings such as elementary and high schools, community centers, juvenile halls, and daycares. In these roles, I've supported children and adolescents/teens dealing with a wide range of mental health issues, including neurodivergence and ADHD, anxiety disorders, and adapting to significant life changes like divorce, reunification, moving/relocation, and grief. Additionally, I have experience in addressing emotional and sexual abuse, human trafficking, and other sensitive issues.

Throughout my life, working with children and adolescents/teens has been a significant passion. From my teenage years volunteering on the pediatric floor of my local hospital and later participating in a CNA program there, to serving as a dance instructor, cheer coach, and nanny, I have consistently sought opportunities to nurture and support children. This journey has naturally led me to focus on helping children develop a positive self-esteem and sense of self, facilitating their healing and progress from past traumas, and enhancing their overall mental wellness.

What is Child/Teen Therapy | EOnWellness

Child and teen psychotherapy is designed for individuals 17 years of age and under. This branch of psychology covers a broad spectrum of subjects, ranging from the impact of genetics on behavior to the effects of social dynamics on development. It's a study of the mind and behavior from prenatal stages through adolescence, addressing not only the physical growth of children and adolescents/teenagers but also their mental, emotional, and social evolution.

Each child or adolescent possesses distinct needs, preferences, goals, and personality traits. Therefore, a standardized approach may not effectively support their unique development. As an integrative and holistic therapist, I am committed to collaborating with you, utilizing a range of therapeutic approaches tailored to your child's individual requirements, free from the constraints of any single modality. Should you prefer a specific therapeutic method, we can certainly discuss the possibility of focusing on that approach exclusively.

Initially, I propose beginning with Person/Child-Centered therapy. This modality emphasizes the critical role of a strong rapport between therapist and client in fostering successful therapeutic outcomes. Together, we will explore and implement research-based coping strategies alongside counseling techniques, aiming to enhance emotional and behavioral regulation. Examples of these coping skills include, but are not limited to, breathing exercises, nature sounds, laughter, and sensory activities.

During sessions, please note that there may be instances where the child's parent(s), guardian(s), or other relevant parties participate in the session. These sessions aim to improve the family dynamic, focusing on the interaction and communication between the caregiver(s) and the child.

Throughout these sessions, I may offer support as a "translator"/facilitator, promoting healthy and constructive communication. If an opportunity arises to assist by "translating" or guiding the conversation toward effective communication strategies and various coping mechanisms, I will provide support. The ultimate goal is to empower caregivers and the child/teen to communicate effectively without my direct involvement, using the coping skills acquired during our sessions.
